Eco-Integrity Alliance is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from Ben & Jerry’s Foundation for our campaign to Protect National Forests as Climate & Biodiversity Reserves.

In this project, Eco-Integrity Alliance will unite three crucial yet often disconnected hubs of the environmental movement—climate, environmental justice, and forest protection—into a common campaign.
Climate advocates have done excellent work protesting fossil fuels yet tend not to oppose—or sometimes even promote—burning carbon-storing forests and/or toxic trash in polluting incinerators, or other dirty energy facilities disproportionately sited near lower-income and BIPOC communities. Environmental justice advocates have made historic strides against air and water pollution yet tend to overlook the importance of ecosystem protection. And while forest advocates have saved many acres of wildlands, they rarely engage with urban communities.
Eco-Integrity Alliance’s strategy is to bring these often separate (and sometimes conflicting) hubs of the grassroot movement together by launching our campaign to designate federal publicly owned lands as Climate and Biodiversity Reserves (part of a larger “Half-Earth” strategy) and propose a moratorium on taxpayer-subsidized drilling, mining, and logging in National Forests.
